About me: Hi, my name is Eric O'Brien and this is my first semester in college. Previously I graduated from Cactus High School in Glendale, Arizona. I chose to go to Glendale Community College because I was offered a baseball scholarship that I took. As of right now I am undecided in choosing my major. Hopefully I will find something soon that interests me so I can major in that.

- Personal Reflection (Assessment #6)
Throughout the course I feel like I knew a lot coming into it but there were definite areas that needed work. My work from the first essay to the forth had some improvements and I feel I know more about writing now. I understand how important ethos, pathos, and logos are now. Also how it is important to show your audience you have a credible author that you are getting your sources from.
All through my essays I thought I continually had good theses. I felt they gave brief points about the main points I was going on to talk about. Doing this makes the reader intrigued and makes them want to read on. Also with good supporting facts, stats and expert opinions, I really think it helps encourage the reader to read on and helps them relate to this issue better.
In my essays I still need work on writing in the correct tense through the entire essay. A lot of times I go back and forth from past to present tense without even noticing it. Also many times the way I word things is difficult to understand from the readers’ perspective and confuses them. I think this happens when I think of an idea but I am unsure of how to express it.
I learned many things during this course that were very helpful when writing my essays. I thought learning about ethos, pathos, and logos were very helpful and useful in writing. In essay number one I thought I didn’t establish any ethos, which would have been helpful to establish some facts that made my audience believe them. Also in the beginning I wasn’t sure on how to write certain types of papers, but after reading about them on Blackboard and talking about them in class, I feel I understand them much better and could write a good paper on any one of those topics.
After learning a lot of information throughout the course, I realized that I am a better writer. I also feel that with every paper I write, I write it better because I can use the corrections on previous essays to help me not make the same mistakes on the next one. Many of my writings are fairly good. I don’t think that I am the best writer out there, but I am definitely not the worst. I would think that my writing deserves a grade of B. I feel this is a fair grade that my writing has shown, maybe it hasn't shown in the beginning of the course, but certainly does now.
