Personal Reflection (Assessment #6)
Looking back, I have realized that my writing has gone from weak to strong. When I first wrote essay 1 I had no idea what to do. High school writing was completely different form the style of college. It was hard to understand what the teacher exactly wanted in the paper. The style was different and something that was new to me. As time passed I progressed on my writing and learned how to make my papers better. I learned what the teacher wanted in the paper. After all the papers I have written I feel that I have become a stronger writer and I learned a few things. By the time I wrote essay 4 I knew what I was doing and was no longer lost or confused. I feel that throughout the semester I became a better writer.
As time went by there were areas in which there was success almost everytime. I believe that in my essays I would have a strong connection between my introduction and concluding paragraphs. There was always a connection in the conclusion that brought the reader back to the begining of the essay. In essay 1 I spoke about the difference between high scools and colleges. For the conclusion I made sure to tie it back to the begining by leaving a question for the readers about school. My other essays consisted of the same but with different subjects. Essay 2 was concerning pollution. The introduction spoke about how the sky looked beautiful, but it was pollution. I concluded by asking the readers, once more, if they wanted to hurt themselves with the poisons in the air. I had success in writing my introduction and concluding paragraphs throughtout the semester.
Just as I have my strong areas I also have some areas that need improvement. The one area in which I think can use much improvement is information. With just about all the essays I wrote I did not add enough information from articles. I did not state enough facts to get my point across. I still need some work on my logos. By essay 4, though, I do believe I improved on it. I did not just add a bunch of facts, I connected them together. Connecting the facts helped my essay flow together. Another weakness was getting to the point too quickly. This ties back to not having enough facts. Instead of givig a fact and explaining it I would just keep saying my opinion more than anything else. As every writer does, I still have room to make myself a better writer.
In the begining of the semester I had difficulty understanding ethos, pathos and logos. Those words were new to me. It took some time to understand ann to be able to add them in my writing. With essay 1 and 2 I may have been able to develope the ethos, pathos and logos but it may have been luck. By essay 4 I understood the reason to why they had to be in my writing. I also understand, now, the meaning of ethos, pathos and logos.
I have improved as a writer throughtout the semester. I still have room to improve but now I know that it can be done. I can still work on my areas of weakness and make my strong areas better. Now that a whole semester has gone by of english college writing I have learned quite a bit. I know I can improve my writing and get better grades. Overall, I think my writing deserves a "C" grade. I still have not perfected my papers and I know that I can fix them to be better.
